BIGFOOT’s Dan Runte Visits Troops in Germany

(Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany) BIGFOOT’s Dan Runte and the other Team Summit drivers, Jason Line, Warren Johnson, and Rickie Jones, have just completed their second day visiting troops in Germany. The USO sponsored support mission has taken the team to Kaiserslautern Military Community to visit the stationed troops, as well as many wounded veterans from Afghanistan & Iraq. Each day, a different Summit driver has been blogging about the experience. Today, it was Dan’s turn:

“I came into this trip a little leery for several reasons. First, I was the only monster truck driver in a group of drag racers, and even though I know the Summit guys, it’s not only been a while since I’ve been overseas, but I’ve also never been to Germany before this week, so heading into this week I have to admit I was a little nervous. However, as far as coming here, it has been an absolutely awesome experience. Summit and the USO have put this deal together to make it a life experience for each one of us that was fortunate enough to come.

Today was a very powerful day. After having breakfast at the Deutsches Haus, which is actually a German Air Force officers and NCO’s club run by them, we headed over to the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, where we met some incredible people. We started in the ICU, where we were greeted by Dee Dee Price, an RN who has been there for five years. The ICU is a 12-bed unit where they receive patients from Iraq and Afghanistan, with the majority of their patients of late being Marines. They are the first stop for our most severely wounded warriors, with their assignment to treat them before their transfer to hospitals back in the United States. It is a state-of-the-art facility, with a computer assigned to a station outside each room. Every precaution is taken to protect their patients, including donning a fresh gown and gloves every time one goes into the room, which made for an interesting sight when the four of us did our quick-change routine. We had the privilege of meeting a few of the soldiers, including one who had arrived from Iraq just last night, and all I can say is that it made a huge impression on each one of us.

One item they were most proud to show us was a board filled with messages and news on former patients, including letters of gratitude from parents of soldiers who had not made it home, and it was obvious how much this meant to the staff from how Dee Dee Price talked about it. We then headed to the 13th Floor, D Section, where the charge nurse was Lt. Olson, an enthusiastic young man who informed us that their patients include American, as well as NATO troops, and that, depending on the severity of their injuries or length of their rehabilitation, their stay could range from a couple days to several months. Among the people we visited were two soldiers from Poland that had actually asked to see us through his translator. In addition, we met a young man from the Republic of Georgia, who had been taught to speak English by the night staff, and had his father in the room with him. Despite the severity of his injuries, we were encouraged after speaking with his doctor, who informed us that his functions had been steadily improving.

Before we left, the head nurse told us of a program where people back in the States make quilts that are presented to the soldiers upon their arrival at the hospital in order to give them a sense of home. It is a tremendous program that I suggest you check out. More than 30,000 blankets have been distributed, and the nurses wanted to honor our SFA hosts Wayne and Dieter by presenting them with their own quilt in thanks for their efforts with these troop visits, a gesture that truly moved our veteran guides. The four drivers were also presented with a special memento, as we were each given a Soldier’s Angel pin that we will wear proudly. From 13 Delta, we proceeded to the 23-bed 8 Delta wing, where Capt. Teresa Timms, who just got back from Iraq, took us around to visit with the troops. The best news of the day for me came at 10:21 however, when Wayne called United and learned that my suitcase had finally arrived in Frankfurt, and would be at the main gate in over an hour. Although it delayed my sitting down for lunch, it was great to know I would finally have some clean clothes to wear.

After a quick lunch (which turned into an impromptu autograph session) and a stop by the baggage office, which takes care of the troops personal belongings when they aren’t able to, we made the short drive over to the USO Warrior Center. Unlike your typical USO center, it is not open to the public, but it is instead reserved for the wounded on site. We spent about an hour and a half signing autographs and talking to the soldiers who came over to the facility, including Command Sergeant Major William “Buck” O’Neal, who welcomed us and thanked us for coming to see the troops.

Our official duties ended with another autograph session at the Contingency Aero Medical Staging Facility at Ramstein, who are among the first to see the troops when they arrive, and are the last before they head stateside, prepping them for the flight home.

Throughout the day, the one thing that impressed me the most was the incredible attitude displayed by the both the patients and the medical staff. As we all agreed, these are some awesome people treating some very special folks. It was an extremely humbling day that gave me an even greater appreciation for what those guys do, and the sacrifices they make for our country. I could say my hat is off to those guys, but that would be an understatement. It’s a life changing experience that I’m glad we did, and I would do it again in a heartbeat if the occasion ever arises in the future.

The last event of the day was a tremendous dinner at the Spinnradl, a restaurant located in the oldest building in Kaiserslautern, where we had some tremendous food typical of the area. Finally our hosts Wayne and Dieter were again honored, as their friend and German officer Stefan Roth (who leaves for Afghanistan in the next few days) had successfully petitioned General Petraeus for a commendation, which was presented to them before dinner – a well deserved honor. Well, that about does it for today. We have another full day of activities planned for tomorrow, for which I will turn you back to one of my drag racing buddies, so I invite you to stop back in and see what we’re up to.”

Team Bigfoot to Debut New Summit Bigfoot Paint Scheme at PRI

(Hazelwood, MO) Team BIGFOOT, creators of The Original Monster Truck®, are set to debut their all-new Summit Racing Equipment/Firestone BIGFOOT paint scheme at the 2010 edition of the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) trade show in Orlando, FL December 9th through the 11th.

BIGFOOT #16, the team’s most technically advanced race chassis to date, will be skinned in F-250 fiberglass and will sport an all-new custom paint scheme that is similar in concept to that used by Team Summit drivers Pete Berner (ADRL Extreme Pro Stock) and Tim Wilkerson (NHRA TF/FC), and will showcase the team’s two primary sponsors, Summit Racing Equipment and Firestone tires.

Although Team BIGFOOT is well-known for many of their in-house custom paint schemes, the team’s deep racing heritage helps make the trucks a suitable canvas to display corporate paint schemes shared by fellow racers under the same sponsorship umbrella.

“In the past, we’ve coordinated with Summit, Firestone, MAC Tools, and others to create new twists on paint schemes found on other race vehicles that share the same sponsors as us,” explained BIGFOOT VP of Sponsorships, Bob Trent. “However, unlike a smaller race vehicle like a pro-stock car or stock car, our monster truck bodies offer much more real estate on which to showcase both our sponsors and the paint scheme itself. And I think this is going to be one of the sharpest ones we’ve rolled out in some time,” he added.

Keep watching www.Bigfoot4x4.com for more news on the new paint scheme and for all your Team BIGFOOT news and updates.

Obsession Racing Press Release 13

September ended with another display for AmeriGas at their Santa Maria Office. This office is located on a main boulevard in Santa Maria. Even having only the Obsessed Monster Truck on display it drew a great crowd of people throughout the entire day. We enjoy doing displays for AmeriGas and we are looking forward to more displays in the future, as we know and have seen that it is a big benefit to the company.

The first weekend of October Rick and Jeff did an event in Red Bluff California for West Coast Monster Truck Nationals. This show was a three day event. The weekend started Wednesday with both trucks on display for the M & M Café. On Thursday both trucks were in a parade that went down Main Street for a kick off party and autograph signing. Friday night was the first event that had a strong field of competitors. The truck line up was Obsession, Obsessed, Max D, El Toro Loco, Grave Digger, TMT, King Krunch and El Matador. Rick was determined to have one of the fastest times. After he watched the first few trucks he thought there would be a good chance that he would have one of the top times. Unfortunately the speed wasn’t the problem, the corner was! He rolled Eric’s truck to its lid. This had Rick (and Jeff when he could) in the pits working franticly to have the truck ready so that it could have a safety inspection and return to the field for freestyle. Jeff in Obsession had Max D first round. It was an extremely close race and the call was made to Max D. The Obsession Team got the Obsessed truck cleared for safety and returned for freestyle. Both trucks did an awesome performance in freestyle and stayed with their tires toward the ground for the night.

Saturday night Rick in Obsessed made it to the semi finals in racing. For freestyle Jeff was the first truck out in Obsession and really got the crowd going. A few trucks later Rick came out in full force in Obsessed (Eric’s truck), did a couple of jumps and then flipped it once again!! (Here goes another safety inspection!) Two times in one weekend! Rick made the call to Eric and gave him the news. Eric’s biggest disappointment was that HE wanted to be the first one to roll his truck!! Sunday afternoon came, and we are proud to say that Rick or Jeff didn’t roll the truck! Rick ended up taking the win against Max D in the finals. This made up a little bit for the roll over’s! Jeff went out in freestyle and caught some huge air in Obsession and cut some awesome donuts! I’m sure thankful he managed to keep the truck from rolling! (But there were some close calls) Rick also did a cool and graceful freestyle with what was left on the body of Obsessed! We would like to thank Ron Fischer and Steve Cain for all of their hard work and help all weekend long! Let’s hope we don’t repeat this weekend for a long time.

Third Annual Texas Monster Shootout This Weekend

(The Woodlands, TX) That time of year is here again, the annual Texas Monster Shootout is just around the corner. October 30th is the date and we want to make this year the best so far. Our goal is to raise more money than we have in years past. We at Flame Motorsports challenge the fans to help us achieve that goal. Any one can contact us and donate to the cause. I have included a short explanation of the charity. If you feel compelled to help please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Just after Christmas in 1984, precious two-year-old Ann Denman lost her battle against cancer. Maggie LaBove and Nancy Dillard, friends of Ann’s parents, Trey and Sally Denman, pondered for several years what could be done in Ann’s memory that would make a difference. In 1989, they gathered a group of close friends together and decided that a luncheon to raise funds for pediatric cancer research would be a fitting memorial.

Over three million dollars later, Mothers Against Cancer continues to be a leader in funding childhood cancer research at Texas Children’s Hospital Cancer Center. This group is a registered non-profit organization, composed of dedicated volunteer women whose primary goal is to raise funds for the research necessary to lead to a cure for all forms of childhood cancer … all because of the love for little Ann.

So if you are looking for something to do the night before Halloween and your kids are bugging you because they want to see Monster Trucks. Come down to Houston Motorsports Park and see some of the top independent Monster Trucks in the business. Our line-up includes Fiesta King Krunch, El Matador, Bad News Travels Fast, Instigator, Reptoid, Obsession and team truck Obsessed, and coming all the way from Reno, Nevada is the Airborne Ranger. We will also have some of the best Freestyle Motorcross rider in the country. So if your within hearing distance of this write-up bring the family out. You will have a great night of exciting motorsports action and you will be helping out a great charity.

Hotsy Renews Deal With Hall Brothers Racing

(Champaign, IL) Hall Brothers Racing is proud to announce that Hotsy Pressure Washers has returned as primary sponsor of one of the RAMINATOR trucks and associate sponsor on the team’s entire fleet.

“I am very pleased that Hotsy has determined that the exposure we provide with RAMINATOR is a good value. In these tough economic times, we know companies have to make tough decisions. We are happy that Hotsy has chosen to renew with us and we look forward to a great partnership into the future” said team co-owner Tim Hall. “We have met a lot of great people through our association with Hotsy…dealers, customers, Hotsy users from all types of industries…and it has been great so far. We have a lot of Hotsy appearances planned already for 2011, so I am excited about the opportunities”.

Championship winning driver Mark Hall added “we get a lot of compliments on the cleanliness of our trucks and haulers…and it wouldn’t be possible without our Hotsy equipment. No matter how dirty the trucks get at an event, our Hotsy pressure washers get them sparkling clean every time. This is a very important element of our success.”

Robin Paul, marketing director for Hotsy, said “Hotsy has enjoyed our sponsorship with Hall Bros. Racing over the past few years, and are pleased to continue into 2011. Not only do we keep the RAMINATOR spotless for races, but we share similar characteristics – rugged durability, power, and performance – which make our sponsorship a perfect fit. The Hotsy RAMINATOR is one tough truck, just like Hotsy pressure washers. More and more people have been exposed to the Hotsy name as a result of our sponsorship, and the truck is a great draw for us at appearances around the country. Nothing can clean the RAMINATOR like a Hotsy!”

Hotsy joins RAM trucks as major sponsors of Hall Bros. Racing. “It looks like 2011 will be a great year for Hall Bros. Racing” said Tim Hall. “I can’t wait to get back out there!”

Joe Sylvester & Bad Habit Break Long Jump World Record

(Bad Habit PR – By Joe Sylvester) This past Sunday’s accomplishment was a result of planning and preparations by myself, my crew, and my family over the past couple years. We made it happen despite many set backs and hurdles.

The trouble started 1 week before we began the testing for the jump. After hitting the very last jump of the last show I was doing before my world record testing, the Chevrolet engine in BAD HABIT let loose and completely blew up leaving me without a motor. Thanks to John Kyle and APD Racing Engines in Genoa, Oh, BAD HABIT was back up and running with a newer, stronger, better running motor than ever!

With the new motor in the truck, myself and my two crew members Kyle and Scott got on the road to Columbus, Pa. We arrived at the Miller Farm, site of the Cornfield 500, around 5pm Monday evening and while Kyle and Scott got the truck ready for Tuesday’s testing, Blair and I finished preparing the take off jump. Speed tests went well on Tuesday but the first jump test did not. With my new APD engine not even at full throttle, I hit the take off ramp and flew about 60 feet high in the air and landed straight down on the front of the truck at the 195 foot mark. The impact ripped the right front wheel off BAD HABIT sending it into 5 violent flips. After the truck came to rest around the 300 foot mark, the front axle housiong was bent, the body was completely destroyed, the wheely bar and sway bar bar assembly was completely ripped off the back of the chassis, a shock shaft was bent, a 4-link bar was bent, a tire was flat, the front tie rod was bent and ripped off, and a front steering ram was torn apart. Not to mention I had one heck of a headache.

Although most would have thrown in the towel after a crash like this, we put our heads down and got to work, 17 hrs a day until Sunday to be exact. Big thanks to Kyle, Scott, Mike, my family, and the Cornfield 500 staff for all lending a helping hand to getting BAD HABIT back together in time for the big jump on Sunday.

After heavy rains all day and night Saturday, it was looking doubtful that it was going to be dry enough for the jump Sunday. The sun came through and the winds picked up and the track dried out very well in time for the jump. After making a couple runs past the great crowd and a short speed pass down the runway, I took to the newly redesigned take off ramp without hesitation. I would also like to thank Gary Bauer for his help rebuilding my takeoff ramp so that we could avoid another disaster like Tuesday. Wound out to about 75 mph, BAD HABIT flew through the air perfectly and landed at 197 feet which would not be enough to beat the current record.

The truck was still in good shape and after letting it cool down a bit and changing the pitch of the takeoff just a little, I took to the ramp for a second try at the record. Hitting almost 79mph on this run, the truck once again flew through the air perfectly and this time landed at 208 feet! A New World Record! To see all the action including interviews, the big crash from Tuesday, and the record jump on Sunday, go to www.dirtvision.com where you can purchase the 1-hr paper view special!

This has been a dream come true and I cant thank everyone enough who has helped and supported me through the entire process!!  Watch out for more on the edge stunts in the future as well as a full length DVD from Joe Sylvester Motorsports and the BAD HABIT Monster Truck, more information at www.BadHabit4x4.com!

Mat Dishman Moves Into Seat of Rammunition

(Champaign, IL) Hall Brothers Racing is proud to announce that MTRA Rookie of the year candidate Mat Dishman will take over the seat in the team’s Rammunition monster truck. “Mat has earned this chance—he started with us while he was in high school cleaning parts and running errands for us after school. He has worked his way up and knows these trucks inside out” said team co-owner Tim Hall. “I know Mat is excited, and I think I can teach him a few things to help him become a championship contender. I know he has a good truck under him—that RAM is a winner!” added Mark Hall.

The move was made to accommodate long time driver Geremie Dishman who is leaving to spend more time at home. “Geremie’s daughter Hope is growing up fast, and Geremie wanted to be home more to have more time with her. Who could question that?  We wish him all the best. He will still be involved with us from time to time” said Tim Hall.

“We have had a lot of people ask about who will drive our other race truck” added Mark Hall. “Quite frankly, we are flattered that so many people are interested in what we are going to do. We are currently talking to our sponsors and exploring all opportunities, and we will make a announcement regarding that truck at an appropriate time.”
