Jim & Chris Allen’s Maverik Clash of the Titans Coverage

TMB’s great friends Jim and Chris Allen attended the huge Maverik Clash of the Titans event a few weeks ago and we are proud to present their great coverage. You’ve seen all the action in video on the first episode of MT Unlimited, now experience all the fun in Jim’s great photography and Chris’ great recaps:

“For many years, there was just one type of monster truck race: the drag race. While that type of race course did test out just how fast the trucks could really go, fans yearned for something different. Then the Allstate Arena in suburban Chicago created monster truck races with turns. Fan response was tremendous and monster trucks started coming by the dozens for new and better challenges. One of these challenging races is at Rocky Mountain Raceways in West Valley City, Utah. The racers are Jim Creten and Bounty Hunter, Nick Owens in Iron Outlaw, David Smith driving King Krunch, El Matador driven by Daron Basl, Dan Runte driving Retro Bigfoot #16, Amber Walker behind the wheel of Ms. Bigfoot #11, Jon Zimmer and Amsoil Shock Therapy, Chris “Panda” Ryan driving Excaliber, Jeff Jones in Obsession, Rick Swanson with Obsessed, Roger Stidel in Captain USA and hometown hitter Ron Doncombe in Maverik Monster Trakker.

It was Bounty Hunter who would go on to master the grueling figure eight course quickest as quickest qualifier and easily advanced in the first round over Captain USA, Maverik defeated Excalibur despite good efforts from “Panda”, Amber Walker got the biggest win in her career as Jon Zimmer received two seconds worth of penalties, Obsessed out ran Iron Outlaw, Retro Foot beat El Matador and King Krunch sent Obsession to the trailer. The next round saw the upset of the night as Maverik defeated Bounty Hunter, though Jim Creten would still advance as the fastest qualifier. Obsessed ruined the Cinderella story for Amber Walker and Retro Foot dethroned King Krunch. In the semis, Bounty Hunter avenged his loss in the previous round by defeating Maverik and Retro Foot put Obsessed down. In the two lap final, Bounty Hunter was fast and had the lead at the end of the first lap, but then Dan Runte kept gaining more and more ground and took the lead and the win in the final two turns.

The show ended with some preview freestyles to advertise the show for Sunday evening. Jon Zimmer was the third driver out and got and an almost perfect score of 9 out of a potential 10. Truck after truck tried and failed to match Shock Therapy, but then there was one: Bounty Hunter. Jim Creten gave vertical wheelies, dizzying cyclone donuts and the biggest air over the ramp that preceded one of the pairs of crush cars. With a perfect score of 10, Bounty Hunter took the Night One Freestyle Championship.

It was an awesome show, the fans went away happy and the show for the next day was already in the works by the time the post show autograph session had begun.

“It’s a war out there.” So said legendary announcer Army Armstrong at one point in the end of the steel body age for monster trucks and his words have remained very true over the years. But what makes a monster truck war out of a race? A challenging race course? High caliber competition? A highly desired rematch from an earlier race? In the case of the final day of the Maverik Clash of the Titans XIV, all of the above were true as Dan Runte in Retro Bigfoot #16 and Jim Creten driving Bounty Hunter both looked to sweep the weekend in their respective categories. But this was no two truck show, especially considering the race track is a figure 8 course!

The hometown hero Maverik Monster Trakker and driver Ron Domcombe would not be able to see the track all day as he was unable to get parts to repair the front drive train that was broken the previous evening. Dan Runte set a brand new track record of 27.78 and would get a bye run in the first round. In Round 1, Nick Owens and Iron Outlaw shut down Roger Stidell in Captain USA, Jeff Jones driving Obsession defeated Daron Basl with El Matador, Jon Zimmer with Shock Therapy beat his team mate Chris “Panda” Ryan in Excalibur and Amber Walker and Ms. Bigfoot #11 could not grab a first round win as she lost to Jim Creten. David Smith and King Krunch raced solo as Rick Swanson’s Obsessed had transmission trouble. Rick would drive Obsession for the remainder of the night. Advancing to the semi-final round were Retro Bigfoot, Obsession and Bounty Hunter. Despite not finishing his run, King Krunch would advance as the fast loser. Bigfoot and Bounty Hunter punched their tickets to the 2-lap finals as he defeated Obsession. Retro Bigfoot also advanced as he defeated King Krunch in the semifinal round for the second night in a row. Try as he might, Jim Creten could not catch Dan as Bigfoot swept the weekend in racing.

Unlike the previous night, the drivers had three minutes of Freestyle time and every obstacle on the track was available. Sadly, Ms. Bigfoot broke something in the back axle and King Krunch had brakes that were done, eliminating them from Freestyle. Good early efforts were made by Captain USA, El Matador, Excalibur and Obsession. Then things started to heat up when Iron Outlaw and Shock Therapy hit the track doing better and better tricks at higher and higher speeds and getting better and better scores. But then, there were two. Bounty Hunter and Bigfoot all gave the runs of their weekends and the fans loved it. Bounty Hunter was given the win in Freestyle with and almost perfect score of 9.75 out of 10.0 sweeping the weekend freestyle competitions.

Throughout the weekend, Ron Barrows out of Idaho Falls gave monster truck rides to fans in his ride truck “Thumper”. I took a ride and felt it was the best ride I’ve ever had in a monster ride truck. Up next for me will be the last shows of the year for WGAS Motorsports which will be at the Arizona State Fairgrounds on November 5th-7th. Until then, thank you for reading, enjoy the photos and cheer on.”

Thanks again to Jim and Chris for their great work and to the RMR staff for their hospitality. Click the link below to see all of Jim’s photos!!

Zoo Games Inks Deal With Monster Truck Powerhouse BIGFOOT

(Cincinnati, OH) Just days after BIGFOOT’s won the 2010 Monster Nationals Racing Championship, Zoo Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ CM: ZOOG) is announcing that they have inked a software publishing deal with the innovators of the monster truck. This announcement comes just two years after the initial success of BIGFOOT Collision Course, the first BIGFOOT title published by Zoo on WiiT and DS. With the original collaboration resulting in over 250,000 copies sold, Zoo and “The Original Monster Truck®” are ready to bring mind blowing action back to its fans for a second time.

Developed and published by Zoo, the new BIGFOOT title will bring the realistic experience of monster truck racing to 4×4 fans and video game enthusiasts alike. By replicating the same innovative construction that has made BIGFOOT the leader in the monster truck industry, Zoo plans to bring the car crushing action from the arena to the living room. “Monster trucks are an assault on your senses, both visually and audibly,” said Mark Seremet, CEO of Zoo. “In order to maintain the realism of the trucks and the sport, we’re looking forward to working closely with BIGFOOT to produce another action-packed title that pays homage to the sport and its fans.”

With a track record of success with Zoo, BIGFOOT shares the same enthusiasm for the upcoming title. “After the overwhelming success of BIGFOOT Collision Course, we’re thrilled to be working with Zoo again,” said Bob Chandler, owner and operator of Bigfoot 4×4, Inc. “It’s an incredible opportunity to be able to share our love for monster trucks with the mass market, and we look forward to making our upcoming title a great success.”

Zoo will begin development this year and plans to release the upcoming title in 2011. For more information on Team BIGFOOT, check out www.Bigfoot4x4.com.

Rick Long & BIGFOOT Awarded 2010 Monster Nationals Racing Title

(Hazelwood, MO) Team BIGFOOT is proud to announce that Rick Long, driver of BIGFOOT #15, has been officially crowned the 2010 Monster Nationals Racing champion!

Not since the 2005 Monster Nationals season has Team BIGFOOT fielded a vehicle for the full duration of the tour and challenged for the championship title. In fact, the last Monster Nationals title won by a BIGFOOT driver was Eric Tack in 2003 driving (you guessed it) BIGFOOT #15.

Although the 2010 season would be Rick Long’s first full trip through the Monster Nationals schedule, he is most definitely no stranger to the events, having competed in a number of them over the course of the 2006-2009 seasons.

Long’s road to the championship honors was a most impressive one, as the veteran driver showed he truly is one of Team BIGFOOT’s most aggressive and versatile wheelsmen. With only a couple exceptions, the Monster Nationals series primarily takes place on the bare concrete floors of various arenas across the country, due mainly to time constraints placed on the event organizers or venue regulations against using a track made of dirt. This, of course, presents the drivers and their crew with a host of challenges that they must conquer in order to find on-track success.
The Monster Nationals event format features several individual styles of monster truck competition, including the Wheelie Contest, Freestyle, and Side-by-Side drag racing over junk cars. Long and BIGFOOT showed no mercy in the side-by-side racing category! See the team’s jaw-dropping win statistics: over the course of 24 individual racing events, Long and BIGFOOT captured 16 event wins and took runner-up in a number of other final rounds. This 2-1 win ratio left Long with a total of 1,925 points at season’s end, nearly 1,000 points more than second place finisher Doug Noelke and Tailgator, who amassed 950 to his credit. With those facts on the table, it’s not hard to see why Rick Long is your 2010 Monster Nationals Racing champion!

Nearly as impressive as his racing success were Long’s achievements in both the Wheelie Contest and Freestyle segments of the events, where he finished in second place in both categories. This championship is Long’s second. His first was the 2007 Monster Madness

“We just had an outstanding year running the Monster Nationals tour,” said Rick Long. “Usually winning that many races means you’ve tore up a bunch of stuff, but we somehow lucked out and had it pretty easy this year,” he explained. He went on to add that “Our guys in the shop really took care of me this year, and whatever it is we did to the truck’s setup sure worked, because there wasn’t a truck out there this year that could run as fast and consistent as we did in side-by-side racing.” Perhaps even more interesting to note is the fact that despite its racing-biased tune-up and suspension setup, Long’s BIGFOOT truck proved to be a highly aggressive and successful competitor in both the wheelie contest and freestyle categories.

For the majority of the 2010 season Long competed as the only representative of Team BIGFOOT on the tour, the only exception being the 3-day Madison, WI event, where he was joined by teammate Chris Ludwig in Snake Bite (BIGFOOT #11). Ludwig would prove that Team BIGFOOT’s mastery of indoor non-dirt racing wasn’t strictly limited to just one truck, or one driver – Chris took second place honors in racing during the Saturday night event and captured his first ever indoor national event win on Sunday!

With the 2010 Monster Nationals tour in the books, Rick Long and company will shift their focus to a number of non-point events and a handful of special appearances for BIGFOOT’s two primary sponsors – Firestone tires and Summit Racing Equipment. One can certainly bet that by the time the 2011 Monster Nationals season kicks off in January, Rick Long and BIGFOOT will be ready to defend their title!

“We’re going to approach the 2011 season just like we did the 2010 season, with two goals in mind: win races, and make our fans happy,” said Long. “Thankfully, those two go hand in hand.”

For more information on Rick Long, BIGFOOT #15, and the entire BIGFOOT team, visit their online home at www.Bigfoot4x4.com. You can find driver and truck bios, an online store, the schedule for the team’s fleet of seven touring monster trucks, and much more.

Long would be the weekend’s big winner as he took one racing win and two freestyles with some great slap wheelies. Mark Hall in Raminator and Geremie Dishman in Rammunition each picked up racing wins, while Chris Bergeron in Brutus was the only driver to top Long in freestyle.

MLB 2010 All-Star FanFest Features CHEVY BIGFOOT

(Hazelwood, MO) Yes, you read it correctly – BIGFOOT was a featured vehicle at the 2010 MLB All-Star FanFest weekend. We were brought aboard to help represent Firestone, which is the “Official Tire of Major League Baseball” and the “Official Tire of BIGFOOT”.

When we read about Firestone becoming the official Tire of the MLB, we knew we had to figure out a way to be part of the 2010 All-Star game! With Firestone sponsoring our fleet of trucks and with BIGFOOT displays at Firestone dealers across the country, we knew this would be a hit for Firestone and their customers. We immediately had our graphics department put together a few sample drawings and presented those to the folks at Firestone for their opinion. We all agreed it was a GREAT idea, but Firestone needed to get approval from MLB.

Drawings were sent in, tweaked, and finally approved. There was really only one major question: Since Chevrolet is the Official Truck of Major League Baseball, could the All-Star Firestone-BIGFOOT truck run a Chevrolet body, so BIGFOOT could be at the 2010 All-Star FanFest? The answer: YES! That very day we ordered ourselves a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado fiberglass monster truck body and got to work! We even went so far as to build a Chevrolet big block 540 cubic inch motor with Trick Flow heads!

The truck turned out awesome with the Firestone-MLB graphics package! There were also a lucky 10,000 people who received a 1/64th scale die cast Firestone-BIGFOOT toy given out during the event!

We would like to give a BIG thank you to Phil, Michael, Trent, and Trisha with Firestone for making this happen! We could not be more proud to have you all as our partners!!

Bloomsburg 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals Recap & Photos

One of the most storied venues in monster truck history was the scene this past weekend for another round of the 2010 Monster Truck Thunder Drags – the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds. A season that started off with great competition for the championship between Dan Runte in the Retro Bigfoot and Mark Hall in the new Raminator has now become the yearly Hall Brothers Racing domination tour as Mark went 3 out of 4 in Bloomsburg, with teammate Geremie Dishman in Rammunition getting the other win. Hall’s lead over 2nd place Runte is now massive after the dominant weekend and Bigfoot’s championship hopes are beginning to dwindle. In addition to the racing, there was plenty of great freestyle action from all eight trucks as well.

With the TMB crew scattered across the country this weekend, we have to send out a HUGE thanks to our good friend Jason Miller for submitting some absolutely gorgeous photos from Saturday in Bloomsburg – click the link below to check out his amazing work.
