The Allen Report: 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals – Springfield, MO 2012

    featured_allenreport_051912

(Coverage By Christopher Allen, Photos By Jim Allen)

    Weekend Recap

When the 2011 4 Wheel Jamboree season rolled around, Dan Runte was back and ready to stop the Hall Brothers decade long win streak. When all was said and done, Dan stood head and shoulders above the rest, bringing the trophy back to Midwest 4-Wheel Drive. Now another battle royal for the 4 Wheel Jamboree Series Title has begun in Springfield, MO. Dan Runte was driving the new E3 Spark Plugs Bigfoot #18 with sophomore season driver Darron Schnell with him in Vi-Cor Bigfoot “Bessie” #11. Those two went up against Mark Hall and Mat Dishman in Raminator and Rammunition. The other trucks in the field of ten were Bobby Holman in Lucas Oil Stabilizer with Michelle Simpson and Chalkboard Chuck, regular Stomper driver Joe Nichter with the General Tire body on the Ironman chassis and Dave Radzierez driving both Star Marshall and the XDP sponsored Diesel Monster Truck. Rounding out the field was Australian Champion Clive Featherby and Outback Thunda.

The track construction crew put together a brand new, “Double S” race course. The two trucks complete half a clock-wise roundy-round lap before making a hairpin turn to the left and flying over one more jump to the finish line. After some photo finishes, tight turns and a lot of dust, the semi-finals featured the Rammunition gunning down the reigning champion Bigfoot, while Bigfoot Bessie “udderly” embarrassed the Stabilizer. In the finale, it was neck and neck all the way to the end where Mat stood on the throttle and edged out the world’s only dairy themed monster truck by less than a truck length. In the following freestyle and the second show freestyle (which was the only competition for the second show with no racing), no official winner was crowned, but the fans cheered on.

The second day of racing saw only 7 trucks hit the track for the afternoon and only show on Sunday. Star Marshall gave up his two front tires to make up for a broken rim on the Stabilizer. Bigfoot Bessie had blown a motor the night before during freestyle and the XDP Diesel had some gear problems that were fixed but a steering line was also broken with no chance of being fixed in time.

In racing, the Aussie legend went head to head with the American legend Bigfoot #18 in the first semi final. It was neck and neck until Clive spun out in the final corner leading up to the final jump. Mat Dishman demoted the General and 20 plus year veteran Joe Nichter in the other semi to put together a classic Hall Brothers/Bigfoot finale. For the first two-thirds of the race there was no clear leader until Bigfoot went into the final corner too hot, giving the Hemi powered Rammunition the weekend sweep. Like the night before, there was no winner in freestyle. But the best runs of the day belonged to “Horse with Attitude” Outback Thunda and the 10 time champion Dan Runte. Both drivers pushed their trucks to the limit, much to the increasing noise from the crowd.

Throughout the weekend, the Sergeant Smash ride truck gave rides to anyone who wanted one and Kid KJ & The Lil’ Mighty Monsters both raced and gave freestyle runs, showing the future of the monster truck industry looks bright. With two Bigfoot/Hall Brothers battles in two races, this reporter is confident that the rivalry can only get hotter as the season winds down. Right now: Hall Brothers 2; Bigfoot 0. Next stop for The Allen Report is the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar, California over Independence Day weekend. In the meantime, thanks to Family Events for their hospitality, enjoy the photos, thank you for reading and cheer on!

2012 International Monster Truck Museum Hall of Fame Nominees Announced

    featured_imtm2012

(Auburn, Indiana – IMTM PR) – The International Monster Truck Museum & Hall of Fame is very proud to officially announce the 20 nominees for the 2012 IMTM Hall of Fame class.

When inducting the first ever IMTM Hall of Fame class in 2011, the Board of Directors felt it the only proper course, to honor those men that are widely recognized as the sport’s originals: Bob Chandler, Jeff Dane, Dan Degrasso, Everett Jasmer, Fred Shafer and Jack Willman.

For the 2012 IMTM Hall of Fame class and beyond, the Board of Directors wanted to put in place a nominating and voting process that ensured the monster truck community is able to influence the selection in a non-biased and open to the public manner.

Last year the IMTM inducted Bob Chandler, Jeff Dane, Dan Degrasso, Everett Jasmer, Fred Shafer & Jack Willman. Who will be a part of the 2nd Hall of Fame class?

An official Nominating Committee was established, consisting of 25 people from all aspects of the monster truck industry. The committee included the 8 members of the IMTM Research Committee, along with 17 current & former drivers, promoters, historians and members of the media.

Members of the Nominating Committee were charged with the process of narrowing the great number of candidates who have excelled in the monster truck industry over the years, down to an official voting ballot of 20 names. Each committee member submitted a form listing the 20 names they wish to nominate, along with a brief explanation of the qualifications of each.

When all the nominating forms were received, the IMTM Board of Directors tabulated the results and are now very excited to announce the 20 names submitted most across all nominating committee member forms, the official 2012 IMTM Hall of Fame Nominees:

The International Monster Truck Museum & Hall of Fame would like to congratulate each of these legendary monster truck figures on officially being nominated for induction into the IMTM Hall of Fame. We would also like to thank the 25 members of the Nominating Committee for their efforts in helping honor some of the most significant figures in the history of monster trucks.

The International Monster Truck Museum & Hall of Fame would also like to recognize some of the other incredible people who received nominations but fell just short of the top 20 this year. Here is a complete list of all those who received at least 2 nominations:

Alan Tura, Bob Breen, Brett Engleman, Charlie Mancuso, Charlie Pauken, Cliff Starbird, Dan Patterson, Dave Wieczorek, David Spiker, Don Maples, Gary Bauer, George Eisenhart, Jake Henke, Jan Gabriel, Jesse Birgy, Jim Oldaker, Jim Reis, Kevin Dabney, Mark Bendler, Mark Dye, Mark Hall, Marty Garza, Merideth Doulton, Mike Gallaway, Mike Nickell, Mike Speller, Mike Vaters, Rich Hooser, Rod Litzau, Scott Douglass, Steve Combs, Steve Dane, Tim Hall, Tom Meents, William Townes

With the nominating process now complete, an official voting ballot will be created, listing all 20 nominees. Members of the IMTM Board of Directors, along with previous Hall of Fame Inductees will each receive a voting ballot. They will vote for 5 of the 20 nominees and return their ballot by September 1st.

The 5 nominees receiving the most votes will be inducted into the IMTM Hall of Fame on Saturday, November 3rd in Auburn, Indiana. These 5 inductees will be announced to the public on Saturday, September 15th at the 4-Wheel Jamboree Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Tickets to attend the 2nd Annual IMTM Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Reunion will go on-sale Friday, June 1st and will be available online at www.MonsterMuseum.org.

Rettew Motorsports Receiving Great Support Heading Into Summer 2012

Zane Rettew and Stinger have enjoyed a strong first half of 2012 and the team is looking forward to finishing the year strong.

(Lancaster, Pennsylvania – Rettew Motorsports PR) – Rettew Motorsports is proud to announce a busy summer schedule as well as some exciting team news. It is shaping up to be a busy and exciting second half of 2012 for the team, with new sponsorship, great new fans, and even a new truck on the way.

“The support we’ve gotten recently is tremendous,” owner/driver Zane Rettew said. “I am more excited to be behind the wheel now than ever, and with companies like Pristine Auto, Exhaust Pros, Clutch and Driveshaft, Alliance Equipment, CPS Graphix, and ProThings, it makes life that much easier on us to run the way we want.”

Indeed, that’s quite the list of sponsors. After a recent trip to the Make a Wish Truck Convoy in his home state of Pennsylvania, Rettew and family set to work getting more parts ready for the assembly of a team truck to Stinger, which Rettew is hoping to have ready towards the end of 2012.

Zane Rettew and Stinger have enjoyed a strong first half of 2012 and the team is looking forward to finishing the year strong.

“We don’t do anything halfway on this team, “ said Rettew. “My wife and kids, my friends, everyone shares this crazy dream I had and helps me to no end. Now, in addition to the support of family and friends, I have some backing from sponsors and that’s let us get this second truck ready to team up with Stinger. I’m excited!”

That excitement is shared by those on board with Rettew Motorsports, including Pristine Auto Detail from Holtwood, Pennsylvania, Exhaust Pros from Bemidji, Minnesota, and Alliance Equipment and Fiberglass from Youngstown, Ohio. Alliance is going to be supplying us with our new bodies and helping to keep Stinger looking good after a crash by repairing our old ones.

In addition, CPS Graphix has come on board to help with Stinger’s graphics and vinyl, as well as hero cards, posters, and every printing or visual need the team has. They can be found at cpsgraphix.com and we encourage you to check their site out and tell them Stinger sent you!

ProThings was announced as a sponsor for Rettew Motorsports’ crew shirts and apparel, and have been nothing but professional ever since. To go along with the great graphics on the side of the truck, when Rettew hops out of it after a dominating freestyle, he’ll be sporting the hottest new crew shirt from ProThings.

Stinger is ready to thrill crowds outdoors all summer!

He’ll have plenty of chances to do that, as the summer will be a busy one, with stops everywhere from Ohio to Pennsylvania to Texas and everywhere in between. Demand for the Stinger truck has increased dramatically, and All-Star Monster Truck Tour, Monster X Tour, Monster Events, JM Productions, and Outlaw Monster Trucks are just a few of the promoters lining up for a piece of the action. Fans know everywhere Stinger goes, it leaves an impression.

Keep your eyes on the www.RettewMotorsports.com website for more changes and updates, and be sure to check our schedule page for more information!

Bigfoot #18 Claims King of the Beach, Stone Crusher Dominates Freestyle

Dan Runte continues to have a great 2012 season, capturing the 2012 King of the Beach crown.

(Virginia Beach, Virginia – MTX Event Production PR) – BIGFOOT and Dan Runte returned to Virginia Beach 13 years after his appearance at the inaugural event in 2000 and narrowly claimed the King of the Beach title and the new George Carpenter Cup over hometown favorite Steve Sims in Stone Crusher.

Runte appeared in all four final rounds of racing, winning 3 and giving up Sunday’s win to Doug Noelke in Tailgator. Those victories and solid performances in wheelies and freestyle throughout the weekend put him in a strong position to take the overall win. Sims, the Virginia Beach native and clear hometown hero, had been blasting the course all weekend and completely swept wheelies and freestyle competitions. Three vicious freestyle runs took their toll on the Stone Crusher however and electrical problems caused him to miss the racing segment of Sunday’s show, virtually handing the win to Bigfoot. Young gun Jeremy Slifko and his Backdraft machine landed in 3rd overall with impressive freestyles each day.

Dan Runte continues to have a great 2012 season, capturing the 2012 King of the Beach crown.

With all 4 performances at near capacity or sold out, fans also were treated to the debut of two brand new monster trucks. Maxie Broaddus of Tappahannock, VA showed off ‘Walking Tall’ on Friday night with an unscored freestyle exhibition. Steven Sims Jr. and the Monster Trucks Unlimited crew unveiled their brand new truck “Hooked” on Saturday afternoon with another unscored bonus freestyle. It competed on Saturday night and Sunday in place of Monster Magic who lost an engine due to a broken cam shaft.

Final Monsters on the Beach Standings:

    1. E3 Spark Plugs Bigfoot #18, Dan Runte – 290 pts
    2. Stone Crusher, Steve Sims – 281 pts
    3. Backdraft, Jeremy Slifko – 247 pts
    4. Gunslinger, Scott Hartsock – 228 pts
    5. Tailgator, Doug Noelke – 225 pts
    6. War Wizard, Randy Moore – 211 pts
    7. Eradicator, Andy Slifko – 210 pts

    Scoring: 90pts available each performance (30/wheelies, 30/racing and 30/freestyle). 360 total possible.
